10th March 2010
We are learning about time and temperature i would like to learn more about different time zones.
Great Tara - we'll be looking at these over the next week. Mrs. Breeds.

Monday 15th march 2010
W.A.L.T. We are learning about different time zones around the world and how to calculate time differences.
today we learnt how to change times from other time zones in to our time from here in N.Z.
we also learnt about GMT wich is in greenwich england and is wehere all time is taken from.
You needed to explain how the time zone 'lines' work and how to calculate differences.

WALT:we are learning about the difference between celsius and fahrenheit for tempreture.
We have 2 mesurements because farenhight is an emperial mesurement from the olden days although some other countries eg america still use it, and celsius is more from the present.
To convert fahrinheit to celsius you must -32x5/9=celsius.
Good explanation - you then needed to show how to use this formula.

29th March 2010
WALT: use tempreture as a strategy to help us add and subtract integers.
Eg.-15+-3=-18 because you are adding on the cold to make it colder.
I feel good about this strategy and I prefer it to the hills and holes strategy.
I am pleased that you feel good about this strategy. i am sure you will use it in the future. TC

Wednesday 31st March 2010
WALT add dont subtract when working on decimal subtraction problems.
today we wrote decimal subtraction problems for our partners and worked on converting them to addition problems.
i prefer the other stratergy when working out these problems.

Monday 19th April 2010
WALT: use a number of different problem solving stratergies to solve complex problems.
Today I learnt a number of different problem solving startergies that i didnt yet know. My goal is to start using some more strategies to work out problems.
Can we refine your goal to being able to choose and apply the right strategy for the problems you encounter?

Over the past week I have been learning to use different types of graphs & what to use them for
The graphs I have been learning about are, histagrams, dot plots, scatter plot and stem & leaf. I have also learnt what continus & discreet data is & what the difference is between them. Also which types of graphs to use for the different types of data e.g. for continuis data you could use a histagram
& for discrete data you could use a dot plot.
Tara I have been impressed with the effort that you are putting into your learning. A good explanation of the above. Well done.

Tuesday 4th May 2010
Today I learnt what trends are in graphs and what a times series graph is. I felt good about my learning today and i think this will help me while i am doing my statistical investigation.

Wednesday 5th May 2010
WALT draw and interpret a box and whisker plot.
Today I learnt how to draw a box and wisker plot. I now feel comfortable with doing this as before I was confused abuot it.
Do you feel comfortable interpreting it as this is an important procedure? You need to be able to talk about range, interquartile range and median.s
median-is the middle number.
range-the range are the nunbers between the lowest and highest numbers.
interquartile range- is the numbers between the upper and lower quartile range.

Thursday 13th May 2010
Today I worked on my statistical investigation i have nearly finished getting all of the average heights and ages.
I am finding my investigation a little challenging and need to organise my time wisely.
You do need to ask for help and guidance if stuck too Tara. Keep an open mind as to where your data may take you.

Thursday 27th May 2010
Today I did my second otago maths test. did better on this test then the last test i did as this time I got 4. Next time I should take my time and try and use better strategies.
What strategies would have given you greater success Tara? I think this is an awesome result and certainly shows the progress you are making with this aspect of maths.

Wednesday 16th June 2010

Today I completed my second olympiad maths test I found this one a lot harder then the first and I only got 1 of my answers right.
next time I think I should keep an eye on the time as at the end i rushed.
